I once knew a Jane Doe who could speak ‘heavy tongues’ while praying but give her 10 minutes after leaving the prayer meeting, you would be shocked at the way she would gossip about someone else’s situation with exaggeration and lies. I soon discovered that this was a normal behavior with her. Oh my God, she wasn’t particularly someone you would call a ‘good person.’
I always wondered if she was genuinely okay and at peace with herself. I mean, how could she sleep at night after viciously tearing down someone else. What’s worse, she’s a church leader, and others look up to her (I mean, she’s anointed, and the girl can sing). But this terrible habit of lying and spreading gossips misled many, particularly new converts and new members. Jane even ‘sees’ and ‘prophecies’ sometimes about what God showed or told her while praying.
I thought to myself, could God really have showed her these things, or is she prophet-lying? From the Word of God, I found that the gifts of God are without repentance (Romans 11:29), and prophecy is a spiritual gift. So Yes, God could have shown her visions and given her prophecies.
But what could be wrong? Why is she so gifted and yet not reflecting the character of God?
Always going to church but yet you couldn’t see the church in her.
There are a lot of Jane Doe’s on our church streets today. People who claim to be Christians and have the similitude of churchgoers but are not reflecting the character of Jesus or exhibiting godly fruits.
I Corinthians 13:1-2 – “Though I speak with the tongue of men and of angels, but have not Love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.”
Vs. 2 – “And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all Faith, so that I could move mountains, but have not Love, I am NOTHING.”
These verses sum up Jane Doe’s situation and sum up where many of us are today, and why our lives reflect almost NOTHING of the glory and fullness of God’s blessings.
It’s time for a reality check.
If only we’d admit this, at least to ourselves, that some of us are part of the Doe family. Hence, we (sometimes) UNKNOWINGLY sabotage ourselves and live below God’s plan for us (1 Peter 3:10). So, the next time you want to blame God for not being ‘GOD ENOUGH’ for you and your many issues, first “examine yourself as to whether you are in the faith. Test YOURSELF.” – II Corinthians 13:5a.
Remember that FAITH WORKS BY LOVE – Galatians 5:6. No wonder Jesus calls LOVE ‘the greatest.’ In the next few posts, we will delve into ‘WHAT LOVE IS’ according to scriptures and how we can WIN IN ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE.
Thanks for stopping by. See you in the next post.
